The Key Precautions for Using an Emergency Pump

PERKIINS POWER remind you that the following are the Key Precautions for Using an Emergency Pump

An emergency pump is a critical device designed to handle sudden fluid transfer or drainage needs during crises. To ensure its safe and efficient operation, users must follow essential guidelines.

    I. Safety inspection and equipment preparation

    ‌1. Pre-start inspection‌

Check whether the diesel engine tank is full of oil and whether the battery power is normal (batteries that have not been used for a long time need to be charged first); confirm that there is no leakage in the pump body, valves, and pipes, and that the fasteners are not loose5.

Check whether the water pump inlet filter is clean, whether the outlet pipe connection is firm and leak-free, and the pump body needs to be pre-injected with an appropriate amount of liquid to be sucked (self-priming pump).

‌2. Alarm system and protective device‌

Verify that the safety alarm system functions normally (such as power supply, fault indicator light, etc.), and regularly check the wear of the equipment1.

When wading, ensure that the electrical components are waterproof and the water level does not exceed the designed maximum wading depth

II. Fuel management and environmental adaptability

    ‌1. Diesel selection and storage‌

Use national standard diesel to avoid carbon deposits or engine damage caused by inferior fuel; antifreeze needs to be added in cold seasons, and diesel should be stored away from fire and sealed.

    ‌Special environmental measures‌

Ensure ventilation when using in a confined space to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning; in plateau areas, the power drop caused by air pressure changes should be considered (power drops by about 10% for every 1,000 meters increase in altitude).

Suspend use on rainy days to avoid lightning damage to the control system.

III. Operation monitoring and operating specifications

‌1. Key monitoring items in operation‌

Observe whether the outlet pressure gauge and ammeter are within the normal range, check whether there is leakage at the sealing point, and whether the bearing temperature is abnormal.

Judge the status by the engine sound and exhaust color: black smoke indicates incomplete combustion, and white smoke may be water in the cylinder.

    ‌2. Start-stop operation requirements‌

‌Start‌: Follow the opening sequence of the outlet valve and the inlet valve; it is forbidden to close the outlet pipeline for operation, and the head must be within the range specified on the nameplate.

‌Shutdown‌: Unload the load first, run at idle speed for 3-5 minutes to cool down, and then close the throttle; directly shutting down the engine in an emergency may cause local overheating.

    IV. Installation and maintenance requirements

    ‌Key points for mechanical installation‌

The pump shaft and diesel engine output shaft must maintain coaxiality, and the coupling nut must be tightened to prevent loosening to avoid impeller movement and cause failure.

    ‌Maintenance and storage‌

Drain the fuel system during long-term storage, perform anti-rust treatment on metal parts, and start running for 15 minutes every month to maintain mechanical activity.

Regularly check the protection level of the control cabinet (such as IP30 or IP55) to ensure that the automatic moisture-proof dehumidification device is effective.

    V. Emergency handling

    If the water volume decreases suddenly or the sand content increases during operation, stop the machine immediately to check the cause;

If the motor is overloaded or the temperature is abnormal, turn off the power immediately for inspection.
